Canva is a beautiful piece of web design tool, which effortlessly creates wonderful Infographics, pictures and designs for you. It is free. Will you still pay for Adobe Photoshop license? Let’s see why you should not ?
Like many of you guys over there, I have absolutely no graphical design background. I never cared to learn the jazzy and flashy Adobe Photoshop. Well for a hardcore java programmer graphical design sometimes takes a backseat.
Adobe Photoshop is a design tool trusted by millions for creating upmarket Infographics and other designs. Have you wondered ever, what is the price you pay to create designs using Photoshop?
Well not only you pay for the licensing of the software, but there is a cost attached to learning the tool too. It is not easy to know those hundreds and thousands of options. So most probably you end up taking design tutorials and classes to learn it. Needless to say, you pay a price –time, money or both!
If you are a Graphical designer by profession, I won’t mind the effort. But for others, It is Canva all the way! Creating Infographics can never get easier. If you thought that you have to shell out hundreds of bucks for it, you are wrong! The usage cost is absolutely zero. If you personally want to use the premium images, then you pay $1 per image. But let me tell you one more thing, Canva itself comes with hundreds and thousands of free stock images and icons. You needn’t pay for these images and your Infographics building cost remains absolutely free.
Let me take you through the steps to create your own free Infographic using Canva.
Steps to create your own free Infographic using Canva
Step#1: Head to Canva home page. You will find yourself in a wonderful landing page. Try moving the cursor around the page; you will see some cool graphical effects. Loved it ? Well, they seem to be serious about their intentions, probably dethroning Adobe or other design tools in long run! Just create an account with them or connect through facebook. This will directly take you to their template section, they mean business ! No wandering work around the site. Sounds cool , right ?
Step#2: You are in the template section where you can select design types. Here you will find all sorts of design templates that you may like to create – Album/Postcard Cover, Social Media, Presentation, Poster, Facebook Cover and so on.
Step#3: Select the design template that you need. For instance I want an Infographic, I will select Blog Graphic for my needs.
Step#4: Upon selecting Blog Graphic, you will land into the Center stage of the tool which provides you with all the options of selecting Background, choose a template, and use free or premium images and icon to build your Blog Graphic. It is simple selection and drag/drop. When you first signup with them which is off-course free, you also get a short tutorial which takes a few minutes to learn using their tools.
Step#5: Once you are done assembling your design, just use download at top right of the page. This is to export the graphic/image as pdf/image extension.
Reference graphic, I created under one minute ! Not bad for someone with no graphic design skills, Isn’t it !
Verdict: Canva is the easiest tool around to create powerful designs with least effort. It comes for free and almost no time required for learning. With few more feature upgrades, it is all set to outdo all those powerful design tools like Photoshop, GIMP which has a huge learning curve and licensing fee. Let me know what you think about it.
